The giant rat is a diseased, dog-sized rodent that boils up out of sewers, cellars, and ruins wherever filth and refuse collect, and it almost never comes alone. Fast, filthy, and fearless in a pack, it carries fever and rot in every bite - the first thing a starting party learns to dread beneath a city's streets. When your party pries open the cellar door, it's the dozen red eyes in the dark that answer. On the table it's a perfect low-level swarm-filler for any dungeon or urban crawl, dangerous in numbers and cheap to field by the handful - set a nest of them loose alongside the giant spider lurking in the same forgotten dark.
