The flash beetle is a big, glossy insect whose glands produce a sudden burst of blinding light, perched here on a fallen branch with horns raised. Harmless-looking until startled, it dazzles predators and prey alike before scuttling clear, a strange and memorable hazard of cave and wood. Picture the sudden flare that leaves the party blinking. On the table it is a quirky low-level vermin foe for any wilderness or cavern encounter, cheap to field in scuttling numbers - loose it near a bristling ambush predator of the wilds, the ankhrav bursting from the earth.
